The Coen Brothers have often been described one person with two heads,
but the synergy between Joel and Ethan often means that you have a consistent
singular work with twice the intelligence of most pictures. Whether adapting
the work of others, such as their seminal take on Cormac McCarthy’s No Country
For Old Men or crafting their own originals like Raising Arizona, Fargo and The
Big Lebowski, the screenplays that are the foundation of their films pack more
humour, absurdity, shock and meaning than most others can manage.
