A far cry from the most overtly ‘directed’ documentaries almost
dictated by the personalities of their author, such as Michael Moore or Morgan
Spurlock, the Maysles Brothers’ presentation of door-to-door Bible salesmen is
a frank, honest portrayal of Americana. It’s funny, engaging and has a lot to
say about capitalism and the world we live in. Whether you want to look at it
from a societal standpoint or as a character study of its subjects, it’s an
honest piece of documentary cinema.
