Although not as prolific as many of the great film composers, the stamp
Vangelis made upon the medium is unquestionable. Starting his musical career in
the 1960s in bands such as The Forminx and Aphrodite’s Child, after a few film
scores became a fully-fledged solo artist in 1973, putting out albums such as
Earth, Heaven And Hell and China. However, it his film scores for Chariots Of
Fire, which won him the Academy Award for Best Original Score, and Ridley
Scott’s Blade Runner for which he is most noted. His influence on the use of
electronic music as viable means of film composition is unquestionable.
