The 7th Hall Of Fame Inductee For Contribution To Male Acting - Rutger Hauer

Rutger Hauer is a man who has had arguably three or four different film careers worth of work: he first became noted in the Netherlands with regular collaborator Paul Verhoeven on numerous films, such as Turkish Delight, Soldier Of Orange and Spetters, before transitioning to America, most notably playing existential villains Roy Batty in Blade Runner and John Ryder in The Hitcher. Since then, he’s been in any number of direct-to-DVD films (many of which are rubbish: as Mark Kermode said to me personally, “it’s almost like there’s a market for bad Rutger Hauer films”) and Hollywood productions as a reliable go-to guy and respected veteran for parts in Sin City, Batman Begins, The Rite and the deliriously self-mythologizing Hobo With A Shotgun.
