Working mostly in action and
horror cinema, Frank J. Urioste cuts together scenes of violence unlike most
others. Although the scenes in films such as Robocop, Total Recall, Die Hard,
Road House and The Hitcher are at times Peckinpah-esque and always feel
high-impact, they feel strangely both alien and familiar. I think anyone who’s
able to balance violence in such a manner has the hallmarks of a great editor.
Notwithstanding the violence, he’s also a strong storyteller, piecing together
often brutal films so that they remain cohesively-narrative works.
